1 In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of Jehovah by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying, ² Thus speaketh Jehovah of hosts, saying, This people say, It is not the time for us to come, the time for Jehovah’s house to be built. ³ Then came the word of Jehovah by Haggai the prophet, saying, ⁴ Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your ceiled houses, while this house lieth waste? ⁵ Now therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Consider your ways. ⁶ Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.

⁷ Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Consider your ways. ⁸ Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith Jehovah. ⁹ Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith Jehovah of hosts. Because of my house that lieth waste, while ye run every man to his own house. ¹⁰ Therefore for your sake the heavens withhold the dew, and the earth withholdeth its fruit. ¹¹ And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the grain, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labor of the hands.

¹² Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of Jehovah their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as Jehovah their God had sent him; and the people did fear before Jehovah. ¹³ Then spake Haggai Jehovah’s messenger in Jehovah’s message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith Jehovah. ¹⁴ And Jehovah stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work on the house of Jehovah of hosts, their God, ¹⁵ in the four and twentieth day of the month, in the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.

2 In the seventh month, in the one and twentieth day of the month, came the word of Jehovah by Haggai the prophet, saying, ² Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people, saying, ³ Who is left among you that saw this house in its former glory? and how do ye see it now? is it not in your eyes as nothing? ⁴ Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saith Jehovah; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith Jehovah, and work: for I am with you, saith Jehovah of hosts, ⁵ according to the word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt, and my Spirit abode among you: fear ye not. ⁶ For thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; ⁷ and I will shake all nations; and ^‍the precious things of all nations shall come; and I will fill this house with glory, saith Jehovah of hosts. ⁸ The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith Jehovah of hosts. ⁹ The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, saith Jehovah of hosts; and in this place will I give peace, saith Jehovah of hosts.

¹⁰ In the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of Jehovah by Haggai the prophet, saying, ¹¹ Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying, ¹² If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any food, shall it become holy? And the priests answered and said, No. ¹³ Then said Haggai, If one that is unclean by reason of a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean. ¹⁴ Then answered Haggai and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith Jehovah; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean. ¹⁵ And now, I pray you, consider from this day and backward, before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of Jehovah. ¹⁶ Through all that time, when one came to a heap of twenty measures, there were but ten; when one came to the winevat to draw out fifty vessels, there were but twenty. ¹⁷ I smote you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the work of your hands; yet ye turned not to me, saith Jehovah. ¹⁸ Consider, I pray you, from this day and backward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, since the day that the foundation of Jehovah’s temple was laid, consider it. ¹⁹ Is the seed yet in the barn? yea, the vine, and the fig-tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive-tree have not brought forth; from this day will I bless you.

²⁰ And the word of Jehovah came the second time unto Haggai in the four and twentieth day of the month, saying, ²¹ Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and the earth; ²² and I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms; and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the nations; and I will overthrow the chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother. ²³ In that day, saith Jehovah of hosts, will I take thee, O Zerubbabel, my servant, the son of Shealtiel, saith Jehovah, and will make thee as a signet; for I have chosen thee, saith Jehovah of hosts.

11 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and one said, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. ² And the court which is without the temple ^‍leave without, and measure it not; for it hath been given unto the nations: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months. ³ And I will give unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. ⁴ These are the two olive trees and the two candlesticks, standing before the Lord of the earth. ⁵ And if any man desireth to hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth and devoureth their enemies; and if any man shall desire to hurt them, in this manner must he be killed. ⁶ These have the power to shut the heaven, that it rain not during the days of their prophecy: and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood, and to smite the earth with every plague, as often as they shall desire. ⁷ And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that cometh up out of the abyss shall make war with them, and overcome them, and kill them. ⁸ And their dead bodies lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified. ⁹ And from among the peoples and tribes and tongues and nations do men look upon their dead bodies three days and a half, and suffer not their dead bodies to be laid in a tomb. ¹⁰ And they that dwell on the earth rejoice over them, and make merry; and they shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwell on the earth. ¹¹ And after the three days and a half the breath of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them that beheld them. ¹² And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they went up into heaven in the cloud; and their enemies beheld them. ¹³ And in that hour there was a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell; and there were killed in the earthquake seven thousand persons: and the rest were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven.

¹⁴ The second Woe is past: behold, the third Woe cometh quickly.

¹⁵ And the seventh angel sounded; and there followed great voices in heaven, and they said,

The kingdom of the world is become the kingdom of our Lord, and of his Christ: and he shall reign for ever and ever.

‍

¹⁶ And the four and twenty elders, who sit before God on their thrones, fell upon their faces and worshipped God, ¹⁷ saying,

‍

We give thee thanks, O Lord God, the Almighty, who art and who wast; because thou hast taken thy great power, and didst reign. ¹⁸ And the nations were wroth, and thy wrath came, and the time of the dead to be judged, and the time to give their reward to thy ^‍servants the prophets, and to the saints, and to them that fear thy name, the small and the great; and to destroy them that destroy the earth.

¹⁹ And there was opened the temple of God that is in heaven; and there was seen in his temple the ark of his covenant; and there followed lightnings, and voices, and thunders, and an earthquake, and great hail.

139 O Jehovah, thou hast searched me, and known me.
² Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising;
Thou understandest my thought afar off.
³ Thou searchest out my path and my lying down,
And art acquainted with all my ways.
⁴ For there is not a word in my tongue,
But, lo, O Jehovah, thou knowest it altogether.
⁵ Thou hast beset me behind and before,
And laid thy hand upon me.
⁶ Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
It is high, I cannot attain unto it.
⁷ Whither shall I go from thy Spirit?
Or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
⁸ If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there:
If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, thou art there.
⁹ If I take the wings of the morning,
And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
¹⁰ Even there shall thy hand lead me,
And thy right hand shall hold me.
¹¹ If I say, Surely the darkness shall overwhelm me,
And the light about me shall be night;
¹² Even the darkness hideth not from thee,
But the night shineth as the day:
The darkness and the light are both alike to thee.
¹³ For thou didst form my ^‍inward parts:
Thou didst cover me in my mother’s womb.
¹⁴ I will give thanks unto thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:
Wonderful are thy works;
And that my soul knoweth right well.
¹⁵ My frame was not hidden from thee,
When I was made in secret,
And curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
¹⁶ Thine eyes did see mine unformed substance;
And in thy book they were all written,
Even the days that were ordained for me,
When as yet there was none of them.
¹⁷ How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God!
How great is the sum of them!
¹⁸ If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand:
When I awake, I am still with thee.
¹⁹ Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God:
Depart from me therefore, ye bloodthirsty men.
²⁰ For they ^‍speak against thee wickedly,
And thine enemies take thy name in vain.
²¹ Do not I hate them, O Jehovah, that hate thee?
And ^‍am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?
²² I hate them with perfect hatred:
They are become mine enemies.
²³ Search me, O God, and know my heart:
Try me, and know my thoughts;
²⁴ And see if there be any wicked way in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting.

¹⁵ The horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give.
There are three things that are never satisfied,
Yea, four that say not, Enough:
¹⁶ Sheol; and the barren womb;
The earth that is not satisfied with water;
And the fire that saith not, Enough.
