39 And thou, son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal: ² and I will turn thee about, and will lead thee on, and will cause thee to come up from the uttermost parts of the north; and I will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel; ³ and I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand. ⁴ Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy hordes, and the peoples that are with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured. ⁵ Thou shalt fall upon the open field; for I have spoken it, saith the Lord Jehovah. ⁶ And I will send a fire on Magog, and on them that dwell securely in the ^‍isles; and they shall know that I am Jehovah. ⁷ And my holy name will I make known in the midst of my people Israel; neither will I suffer my holy name to be profaned any more: and the nations shall know that I am Jehovah, the Holy One in Israel. ⁸ Behold, it cometh, and it shall be done, saith the Lord Jehovah; this is the day whereof I have spoken. ⁹ And they that dwell in the cities of Israel shall go forth, and shall make fires of the weapons and burn them, both the shields and the bucklers, the bows and the arrows, and the handstaves, and the spears, and they shall make fires of them seven years; ¹⁰ so that they shall take no wood out of the field, neither cut down any out of the forests; for they shall make fires of the weapons; and they shall plunder those that plundered them, and rob those that robbed them, saith the Lord Jehovah.

¹¹ And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog a place for burial in Israel, the valley of them that pass through ^‍on the east of the sea; and it shall stop them that pass through: and there shall they bury Gog and all his multitude; and they shall call it The valley of Hamon-gog. ¹² And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying them, that they may cleanse the land. ¹³ Yea, all the people of the land shall bury them; and it shall be to them a renown in the day that I shall be glorified, saith the Lord Jehovah. ¹⁴ And they shall set apart men of continual employment, that shall pass through the land, and, with them that pass through, those that bury them that remain upon the face of the land, to cleanse it: after the end of seven months shall they search. ¹⁵ And they that pass through the land shall pass through; and when any seeth a man’s bone, then shall he ^‍set up a sign by it, till the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamon-gog. ¹⁶ And ^‍Hamonah shall also be the name of a city. Thus shall they cleanse the land.

¹⁷ And thou, son of man, thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Speak unto the birds of every sort, and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh and drink blood. ¹⁸ Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan. ¹⁹ And ye shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you. ²⁰ And ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord Jehovah.

²¹ And I will set my glory among the nations; and all the nations shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them. ²² So the house of Israel shall know that I am Jehovah their God, from that day and forward. ²³ And the nations shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity; because they trespassed against me, and I hid my face from them: so I gave them into the hand of their adversaries, and they fell all of them by the sword. ²⁴ According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions did I unto them; and I hid my face from them.

‍

²⁵ Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Now will I bring back the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel; and I will be jealous for my holy name. ²⁶ And they shall bear their shame, and all their trespasses whereby they have trespassed against me, when they shall dwell securely in their land, and none shall make them afraid; ²⁷ when I have brought them back from the peoples, and gathered them out of their enemies’ lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations. ²⁸ And they shall know that I am Jehovah their God, in that I caused them to go into captivity among the nations, and have gathered them unto their own land; and I will leave none of them any more there; ²⁹ neither will I hide my face any more from them; for I have poured out my Spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord Jehovah.

40 In the five and twentieth year of our captivity, in the beginning of the year, in the tenth day of the month, in the fourteenth year after that the city was smitten, in the selfsame day, the hand of Jehovah was upon me, and he brought me thither. ² In the visions of God brought he me into the land of Israel, and set me down upon a very high mountain, whereon was as it were the frame of a city on the south. ³ And he brought me thither; and, behold, there was a man, whose appearance was like the appearance of brass, with a line of flax in his hand, and a measuring reed; and he stood in the gate. ⁴ And the man said unto me, Son of man, behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears, and set thy heart upon all that I shall show thee; for, to the intent that I may show them unto thee, art thou brought hither: declare all that thou seest to the house of Israel.

⁵ And, behold, a wall on the outside of the house round about, and in the man’s hand a measuring reed six cubits long, of a cubit and a handbreadth each: so he measured the thickness of the building, one reed; and the height, one reed. ⁶ Then came he unto the gate which looketh toward the east, and went up the steps thereof: and he measured the threshold of the gate, one reed broad; ^‍and the other threshold, one reed broad. ⁷ And every lodge was one reed long, and one reed broad; and the space between the lodges was five cubits; and the threshold of the gate by the porch of the gate toward the house was one reed. ⁸ He measured also the porch of the gate toward the house, one reed. ⁹ Then measured he the porch of the gate, eight cubits; and the ^‍posts thereof, two cubits; and the porch of the gate was toward the house. ¹⁰ And the lodges of the gate eastward were three on this side, and three on that side; they three were of one measure: and the posts had one measure on this side and on that side. ¹¹ And he measured the breadth of the opening of the gate, ten cubits; and the length of the gate, thirteen cubits; ¹² and a border before the lodges, one cubit on this side, and a border, one cubit on that side; and the lodges, six cubits on this side, and six cubits on that side. ¹³ And he measured the gate from the roof of the one lodge to the roof of the other, a breadth of five and twenty cubits; door against door. ¹⁴ He made also posts, threescore cubits; and the court reached unto the posts, round about the gate. ¹⁵ And from the forefront of the gate at the entrance unto the forefront of the inner porch of the gate were fifty cubits. ¹⁶ And there were closed windows to the lodges, and to their posts within the gate round about, and likewise to the arches; and windows were round about inward; and upon each post were palm-trees.

¹⁷ Then brought he me into the outer court; and, lo, there were chambers and a pavement, made for the court round about: thirty chambers were upon the pavement. ¹⁸ And the pavement was by the side of the gates, answerable unto the length of the gates, even the lower pavement. ¹⁹ Then he measured the breadth from the forefront of the lower gate unto the forefront of the inner court without, a hundred cubits, both on the east and on the north.

‍

²⁰ And the gate of the outer court whose prospect is toward the north, he measured the length thereof and the breadth thereof. ²¹ And the lodges thereof were three on this side and three on that side; and the posts thereof and the arches thereof were after the measure of the first gate: the length thereof was fifty cubits, and the breadth five and twenty cubits. ²² And the windows thereof, and the arches thereof, and the palm-trees thereof, were after the measure of the gate whose prospect is toward the east; and they went up unto it by seven steps; and the arches thereof were before them. ²³ And there was a gate to the inner court over against the other gate, both on the north and on the east; and he measured from gate to gate a hundred cubits.

²⁴ And he led me toward the south; and, behold, a gate toward the south: and he measured the posts thereof and the arches thereof according to these measures. ²⁵ And there were windows in it and in the arches thereof round about, like those windows: the length was fifty cubits, and the breadth five and twenty cubits. ²⁶ And there were seven steps to go up to it, and the arches thereof were before them; and it had palm-trees, one on this side, and another on that side, upon the posts thereof. ²⁷ And there was a gate to the inner court toward the south: and he measured from gate to gate toward the south a hundred cubits.

¹⁸ Yea, a man will say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith apart from thy works, and I by my works will show thee my faith. ¹⁹ Thou believest that God is one; thou doest well: the demons also believe, and shudder. ²⁰ But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith apart from works is barren? ²¹ Was not Abraham our father justified by works, in that he offered up Isaac his son upon the altar? ²² Thou seest that faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect; ²³ and the scripture was fulfilled which saith, And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for righteousness; and he was called the friend of God. ²⁴ Ye see that by works a man is justified, and not only by faith. ²⁵ And in like manner was not also Rahab the harlot justified by works, in that she received the messengers, and sent them out another way? ²⁶ For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead.

3 Be not many of you teachers, my brethren, knowing that we shall receive heavier judgment. ² For in many things we all stumble. If any stumbleth not in word, the same is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also. ³ Now if we put the horses’ bridles into their mouths that they may obey us, we turn about their whole body also. ⁴ Behold, the ships also, though they are so great and are driven by rough winds, are yet turned about by a very small rudder, whither the impulse of the steersman willeth. ⁵ So the tongue also is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how much wood is kindled by how small a fire! ⁶ And the tongue is a fire: the world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the wheel of nature, and is set on fire by ^‍hell. ⁷ For every kind of beasts and birds, of creeping things and things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed ^‍by mankind: ⁸ but the tongue can no man tame; it is a restless evil, it is full of deadly poison. ⁹ Therewith bless we the Lord and Father; and therewith curse we men, who are made after the likeness of God: ¹⁰ out of the same mouth cometh forth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. ¹¹ Doth the fountain send forth from the same opening sweet water and bitter? ¹² can a fig tree, my brethren, yield olives, or a vine figs? neither can salt water yield sweet.

‍

¹³ Who is wise and understanding among you? let him show by his good life his works in meekness of wisdom. ¹⁴ But if ye have bitter jealousy and faction in your heart, glory not and lie not against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom is not a wisdom that cometh down from above, but is earthly, sensual, ^‍devilish. ¹⁶ For where jealousy and faction are, there is confusion and every vile deed. ¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without variance, without hypocrisy. ¹⁸ And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for them that make peace.

Jehovah answered me and set me in a large place.

What can man do unto me?
⁷ Jehovah is on my side among them that help me:
Therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me.
⁸ It is better to take refuge in Jehovah
Than to put confidence in man.
⁹ It is better to take refuge in Jehovah
Than to put confidence in princes.
¹⁰ All nations compassed me about:
In the name of Jehovah I will cut them off.
¹¹ They compassed me about; yea, they compassed me about:
In the name of Jehovah I will cut them off.
¹² They compassed me about like bees;
they are quenched as the fire of thorns:
In the name of Jehovah I will cut them off.
¹³ Thou didst thrust sore at me that I might fall;
But Jehovah helped me.
¹⁴ Jehovah is my strength and song;
And he is become my salvation.
¹⁵ The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents of the righteous:
The right hand of Jehovah doeth valiantly.
¹⁶ The right hand of Jehovah is exalted:
The right hand of Jehovah doeth valiantly.
¹⁷ I shall not die, but live,
And declare the works of Jehovah.
¹⁸ Jehovah hath chastened me sore;
But he hath not given me over unto death.

² For the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof;
But by ^‍men of understanding and knowledge the state thereof shall be prolonged.
