Avalanche Brownie Bars

Rich, fudgy avalanche brownie bars topped with gooey marshmallows, crushed peppermint candy canes, and melted chocolate for a festive, over-the-top holiday treat.

Ingredients

2 cups granulated sugar

1 cup unsalted butter, melted

½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

½ teaspoon salt

5 eggs, beaten

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1½ cups all-purpose flour

1 cup semisweet or milk chocolate chips

8 peppermint candy canes, crushed

10-ounce bag mini marshmallows

6-ounce bag (1 cup) semisweet or milk chocolate chips, melted

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 13×9-inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine sugar, butter, cocoa powder, and salt. Stir in eggs and vanilla. Add flour; stir in 1 cup chocolate chips.
  3. Spread batter in prepared pan. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near center comes out clean.
  4. While brownies are still hot, sprinkle with half of the crushed candy canes, followed by the marshmallows and remaining crushed candy canes. Drizzle with melted chocolate chips. Cool completely. Cut with a sharp knife.
