Chocolate Drop Cookies

Soft, rich chocolate cookies studded with chopped English walnuts, topped with smooth chocolate frosting, and finished with a walnut half for a perfectly nutty and indulgent treat.

Ingredients

Cookies

½ cup butter, softened

1 cup packed brown sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

1⅔ cups all-purpose flour

½ teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

½ cup milk

1 cup chopped English walnuts

30 walnut halves

Chocolate Frosting

6 tablespoons butter, melted

½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

2 cups confectioners' sugar

¼ cup milk

¾ teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

Cookies
  1. In a large mixing bowl beat together butter and brown sugar. Add egg and vanilla; mix well. Beat in cocoa powder. In a medium bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and salt. Alternately add flour mixture and milk to cocoa mixture, starting and ending with flour mixture. Stir in chopped walnuts.
  2. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet. Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove cookies to wire rack to cool.  
  3. Frost with Chocolate Frosting. Top each cookie with a walnut half.

Chocolate Frosting
  1. Stir together butter and cocoa. Alternately add powdered sugar and milk, beating to spreading consistency. Stir in vanilla.
