Luxuriously smooth ombré chocolate frosting made with butter, sour cream, and four chocolates—perfect for creating rich, creamy layers of color and flavor on any dessert.

Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

10 cups powdered sugar

2 cups sour cream

2½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract

3 oz. white chocolate, melted and cooled

3 oz. milk chocolate, melted and cooled

3 oz. semisweet chocolate (60% cacao), melted and cooled

3 oz. unsweetened baking chocolate (100% cacao), melted and cooled

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl beat butter with an electric mixer until smooth. Gradually beat in, on low, powdered sugar. Add sour cream and vanilla; beat until creamy.
  2. Divide frosting evenly into 4 medium bowls. Add white melted chocolate to one bowl, stirring until combined. Repeat stirring in milk, dark and unsweetened chocolates separately into each of the remaining bowls of frosting.
