Salted Caramels are a delightful homemade treat featuring buttery, chewy caramel squares with a hint of coarse sea salt. This recipe is perfect for gifting, holiday treats, or satisfying your sweet tooth at home.
Ingredients
Nonstick cooking spray
½ cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
½ cup heavy whipping cream
3 tablespoons water
¼ cup agave nectar
1 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon coarse sea salt
Directions
- Lightly spray an 8-inch square baking pan with cooking spray; line bottom and sides with parchment paper. Lightly spray parchment paper.
- Cut butter into small pieces. In a microwave-safe bowl combine butter and heavy whipping cream. Heat in microwave in 30-second intervals or until hot and butter is melted; set aside
- In a small saucepan combine water and agave nectar. Add the powdered sugar, stirring gently to combine with the liquid. Cook over medium heat until sugar mixture comes to a boil. Cover for 1 minute. Remove lid and clip a candy thermometer to side of saucepan. Cook until sugar mixture reaches 320°F. Gradually add butter mixture, stirring well after each addition. Continue cooking until mixture reaches 235°F. Immediately pour into prepared baking pan. Cool for 15 minutes.
- Sprinkle salt over caramel. Cool an additional 2 hours; cut into squares.
