Slow-Cooker Applesauce

This Slow-Cooker Applesauce is naturally sweetened with light brown sugar and brightened with lemon peel and juice. Cooked low and slow for six hours, it becomes perfectly smooth when blended. Enjoy it on its own, in baking, or as a healthy topping for breakfast or desserts.

Ingredients

10 medium apples, peeled, cored and sliced*

2 tablespoons packed light brown sugar

1 strip lemon peel

1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice

Directions

  1. In a 6-quart slow cooker, combine apples, brown sugar, lemon peel and lemon juice. Cover and cook on LOW for 6 hours. Remove lemon peel. Using an immersion blender, blend apple mixture until smooth.
  2. Store applesauce in airtight containers in the refrigerator up to 2 weeks.

*Recommended varieties: Fuji, Gala, Granny Smith, Jonagold, Jonathan, McIntosh, Red Delicious or a combination of these apples.
