A simple DIY vanilla extract made by steeping vanilla beans in vegetable glycerin and water, producing a rich, aromatic flavor perfect for all your baking and dessert recipes.

1 bottle (about 1 cup)

Ingredients

2 vanilla beans

⅔ cup food grade vegetable glycerin*

¼ cup water

Directions

  1. Make a slit down the middle of each vanilla bean.
  2. Using a funnel, add vegetable glycerin and water to an 8.5-ounce bottle. Add vanilla beans. Close bottle securely and shake. Store in a dark place, shaking every few days. Use extract after 5 weeks.

*Note: Find vegetable glycerin at health food stores or in first aid sections at most drug stores.
