Sour Cream Chocolate Cake

A tender, rich chocolate cake enhanced with sour cream and layered with smooth fudge frosting, delivering deep chocolate flavor in every bite.

Ingredients

2 squares (2 ounces) unsweetened baking chocolate

1¼ cups all-purpose flour

3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

2 eggs

⅔ cup packed brown sugar

⅓ cup granulated sugar

6 tablespoons cooking oil

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ cup water

⅔ cup sour cream

Real Fudge Frosting

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Melt chocolate; cool slightly. In a medium bowl combine flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt; set aside.
  2. In a large bowl beat together eggs, sugars, oil and vanilla on low speed of electric mixer for 10 seconds to combine. Beat on medium speed for 1 minute. Beat in cooled, melted chocolate. Add flour mixture alternately with water, beating well after each addition. Thoroughly mix in sour cream.
  3. Spread batter in a greased 13x9x2-inch baking pan. Bake about 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center of cake comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.
  4. Follow spreading instructions in recipe for Real Fudge Frosting. Cool. To serve, score fudge with the tip of a sharp knife, then cut completely through cake at score marks.
