This comforting chai latte blends black tea with a fragrant mix of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cardamom, lightly sweetened with maple syrup for a warming, aromatic drink.

Ingredients

Chai Spice Mix

2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon ground ginger

1 tablespoon ground nutmeg

1 teaspoon ground allspice

1 teaspoon ground cardamom

½ teaspoon ground cloves

¼ teaspoon coarse-ground black pepper

Latte

4 cups whole milk or dairy-free milk alternative.

2 black tea bags

2 tablespoons pure maple syrup, plus additional to taste

Directions

  1. For spice mix, in a small bowl, whisk together cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, cardamom, cloves and black pepper. Set aside.
  2. For lattes, in a small saucepan, heat milk over medium heat just until boiling. Remove from heat and add tea bags; steep, uncovered, for 5 to 6 minutes. Remove and discard tea bags. Whisk in 1 tablespoon spice mix and 2 tablespoons maple syrup. If desired, whisk in additional maple syrup to taste.
  3. To serve, ladle chai lattes into 6-ounce mugs. Sprinkle with additional spice mix, if desired.
