Very Berry and Tropical Delight Ice Creams

For taste, nothing beats the chilly flavor of a homemade ice cream. All it takes is a few ingredients. Start with a simple base of cream, milk, vanilla and sugar and then mix in a handful of whatever flavoring ingredients tempt your tastebuds. For the cones shown here, we used fresh raspberries and a mango-pineapple combination. At your next family gathering, crack open a couple freezers and dip out rich, smooth vanilla creams livened up with ripe summer fruits. Everybody will come running—and screaming—for more ice cream.

Red, White and Blue Pops

Indulge in cool and creamy yogurt pops bursting with summer’s ripest berries. Mix the berries with yogurt and just enough agave nectar to sweeten. The toughest part will be waiting for the pops to freeze. Kids will have fun creating their own variations, improvising with other fresh fruit and flavored yogurt. Adjust the sweetener depending on your preferences and the kind of yogurt you use. For summer gatherings, present the pops in a simple, stylish way by tying ribbons around the sticks.

Fruity Snow Cones

Don’t wait for the festivals and fairs to come to town before treating yourself to colorful frozen mounds of crushed ice packed into cups. Snow-cone flavors are many and varied. Try saturating the ice with pureed mango, strawberry or kiwifruit—the choices are only as limited as the produce available. You can even blend two or more different fruits in one cone. Any cup will work to hold the icy base. Crush the ice in your blender (some have a specific setting for this) or purchase an ice shaver to do the task.

Icy Pops

When the heat is on, put together a few of these portable frosty delights. Making them is a breeze. Mix and match your favorite fruit juices, purees and fresh summer fruits. Berry, pineapple-orange, striped peachy-berry, strawberry-kiwi, raspberry and orange-mango are flavorful options that freeze well. If you like creamy pops with a sweet and tangy blast of citrus flavor, whirl yogurt and orange juice together in the blender to make our orange-yogurt pops.
